Heritage Module Tour of Oxfordshire Gardens

28 October, 2016

The HBGTP 2 year programme provides an additional 50 hours of learning focusing on the design and management of historic gardens. This Heritage Module consists of three field trips and a lecture series during the study blocks.

The second Heritage Module trip, looking at the Georgians and their influence on the landscape, took place for our 2nd year trainees on 14th-16th October. It was led by Dr Michael Klemperer, Andrew Turvey and Kate Harwood. The itinerary included some of the finest examples of Georgian landscape:

  • Rousham – remodelled by William Kent in the 18th century.
    Guide: Robert Parkinson
  • Stowe – designed by Capability Brown in the Gothic style.
    Guide: Geoffrey Shaw
  • Wotton Underwood – English Baroque style, laid out by George London and Henry Wise.
    Guide: Michael Harrison
  • Ashridge – designed by Humphry Repton in the early 19th century.
    Guide: Michael Thompson

Our thanks to the marvelous guides at each site who were able to bring alive the intention of those early designers.
