Sophie Cook attends International Wildlife Gardening conference
HBGTP Trainee Sophie Cook (Dyffryn Gardens): ‘I am particularly interested in bridging the gap between heritage gardening and wildlife conservation. This month the Natural History Museum held an international conference on Wildlife Gardening. I was delighted to be able to attend thanks to generous funding from the Professional Gardener’s Trust and the National Trust.’
The Wildlife Gardening Forum (WLGF) is a group of organisations and individuals who share a passion for the wildlife which enlivens our gardens, and who want more people to understand how important gardens are for wildlife, human health and wellbeing, and for a sustainable future.
Forum member organisations range from government agencies, universities, wildlife trusts, environmental charities, businesses and colleges. Many garden designers and gardeners are members on an individual basis, and share the benefits of our conferences and newsletters, helping everyone keep up with new findings and best practice. http://www.wlgf.org/wlgf
The Professional Gardeners’ Trust was established in 2004 to fund training and study for working gardeners in the UK and Ireland.
The PGT provides gardeners with the opportunity to acquire skills and gain qualifications through part-time courses and work placements. This enhances their careers and benefits the horticulture profession as a whole. http://pgtrust.org/
