Mount Stewart Gardens & Rowallane

Location: County Down, Northern Ireland

Website: Mount Stewart Gardens & Rowallane website

This is a joint placement with 6 months in each garden. There is student accommodation in a school house overlooking Strangford Lough.

This has a 20 acre compartmentalized Arts and Crafts formal garden with an exotic mix of bold planting, themes of Greek and Irish mythology and personal/fun quirky allegory. A 70 acre pleasure ground around the lake with many original introductions by George Forrest, Frank Kingdon-Ward and others. A portion of the walled garden has propagation and service glasshouses and a sales area.

This is a garden that is used to having trainees both long term and short-term. There is a thorough induction programme and a three month probationary period.
