Trainee Seminar 2024
This year’s HBGTP Trainee Seminar was held in West Sussex, in partnership with the Professional Gardeners Guild (PGG).
Over 40 trainees attended, enjoying 4 action packed days visiting gardens, listening to talks and taking part in group activities and discussions.
Despite the weather, the trainees were able to explore the following gardens:
Representatives from each garden kindly met with the trainees to provide guided tours and detailed talks. Presentations were also given by Emma Allen (Head of Horticultural Relations, RHS) and Chris Collins (Head of Organic Horticulture at Garden Organic, Ryton) and Perennial. The trainees were also treated to a special Gardeners’ Question time with the following horticultural professionals:
- Martin Duncan, Head Gardener, Arundel Castle
- Ben Pop, Head Gardener, Private Garden, West Sussex
- Paul Gallivan, Garden and Parks Consultant for the National Trust
- Sam Gallivan, Team Leader, RHS Wisley Nursery and Propagation Team
A big thank you to all the industry professionals who gave us their time and to the garden teams who welcomed us so warmly and to the Lodge Hill Centre in West Sussex, for providing the accommodation.
Also, a special thank you The Royal Horticulture Society, The National Garden Scheme and the Worshipful Company of Gardeners of London Charity for their continued support.
