Meadow Management Internship at Sissinghurst Castle

27 September, 2016

On the 1st of August, three HBGTP trainees began a week’s Meadow Management Internship at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. Hugh and Eleonora (training at Cliveden) and Vicky (training at Nymans) joined fellow horticultural trainees from Kew on site. The week was the first of its kind at Sissinghurst and was run by experienced scyther and gardener Joshua Sparks.

Vicky says: “I had a great week, where the training level was high, really hands-on and new skills were cemented by a whole week of practical meadow management. We experienced both the traditional and more modern practices of meadowlands, which took place within the ornamental gardens and adjoining agricultural landscape at Sissinghurst Castle Gardens. Evening garden visits were arranged for us: these included a trip to Great Dixter’s 400 year-old meadows and two local private gardens, which we thoroughly enjoyed!”
