Hever Castle and the World Garden at Lullingstone Castle

Lullingstone Castle/The World Garden – Being immersed in a diverse range of plants – many unique to Lullingstone – and their associated husbandry with an emphasis on Plant Identification, plant hunters and their historical importance/impact, guided tours of The World Garden, Plant Sales, Maintenance of a biodiverse range of Cacti, Succulents & Bromeliads, Designing and Building a competitive Show Stand.

Hever Castle/Gardens – Maintenance of the Italian Garden containing some 7,000 annual bedding plants, Student having input into design, growing, potting on & planting & maintaining of autumn/winter bedding, Topiary pruning in the Tudor Garden, Winter/Spring pruning & maintenance of 4,000 roses in the Rose Garden. Duties will include visitor interaction & involvement with Weekend Events. Lullingstone Castle/The World Garden – Superlative Plant Identification & plant origins, a high degree of Cacti, Succulent & Bromeliad husbandry, plant sales management, plant shows, garden tours of The World Garden, external trips – all to immerse the student in the world of plants giving them confidence, knowledge and good communication skills.

At Hever Castle/Gardens the trainee will gain self Confidence, be part of a gardening team, learn Mediterranean style planting, the art of topiary, pruning/spraying roses, bedding plant design around castle, Italian garden & include working with over 7,000 plants & 7,000 bulbs.

This is a joint placement with 6 months at Hever and 6 months at Lullingstone Castle. Accommodation is available at both gardens.
