Round 4 trainees visit Midlands gardens

10 May, 2018

This past weekend saw our 1st year Stream 2 trainees exploring historic gardens in Warwickshire and Worcestershire as part of their Tudors Heritage Garden Module.

The group, guided by expert guide John Watkins (Head of Gardens and Landscape for English Heritage), covered a whopping 6 sites. These ranged from Kenilworth Castle’s Elizabethan Garden (below), to a behind the scenes tour of Cotswold Garden Flowers given by renowned plantsman and owner, Bob Brown.

Among the other gardens visited by the group were Anne Hathaway’s Cottage (below) and the National Trust’s Hanbury Hall Gardens. At Hanbury, the group were given a guided tour by Head Gardener Neil Cook. Neil kindly provided the group with insight into how an restored 18th century Dutch style English garden is managed and maintained.

Thanks to all involved in making the weekend a successful one. Forthcoming events include a Study Tour to the Cotswolds for our Stream 1 trainees and a Victorians Heritage Garden Module for our 2nd year Stream 2 trainees.
